Additional Family Responsibilities survey

Many women expected to become responsible for ageing parents before their children were grown up, with 20% already providing some care. We are particularly prone to finding ourselves in the ‘sandwich generation’, where there is an overlap between raising our children and caring for our elderly parents, when we are already at the age most would be retiring from work. In many cases, being the childless daughter meant we took this role on before we had children, so our siblings may feel they do not have an equal responsibility. This may be a subject worth exploring with them before it becomes too late to reverse.
